The Athletic reveal why West Brom haven't spent the Matheus Pereira money
West Brom have not spent the money collected from Matheus Pereira’s sale for various reasons, according to The Athletic.
They claim that the Baggies have used the fee they received from Al Hilal to plug holes in the club’s finances from Covid, loan fees and agent fees.
However, they also spent money to appoint Valerien Ismael and have also agreed a deal in principle to pay a fee for Jayson Molumby next summer.
This is hardly going to please the fans.
There has also been a claim that Al Hilal have paid for Pereira in instalments, so the Baggies have received a tiny fee for the 25-year-old at the moment, and the rest will arrive later [Express & Star].
However, you still feel as if the Baggies could have tried to spend some money to strengthen the squad even further.
The Baggies had a strong transfer window and arguably have one of if not the strongest team in the Championship, but if even a tiny amount of the first instalment had been spent on players, West Brom could have an even stronger side.
Instead, the Baggies could make the season a little more nervous for their fans, though; you would still think they will have more than enough to win promotion.
It is just frustrating to see the club receive that money for Pereira and not spend any of it on players.
In other West Brom news, the club were offered a number of exciting prospects in the last transfer window.
