West Brom fans branded 'fickle' by Hollywood actor

Hollywood actor Matthew Marsden has labelled West Brom fans as “fickle” amid a recent downturn in results and performances.

West Brom are still unbeaten in eight Championship games, but after winning four of their first five, they have now recorded three draws on the trot.

Those are results that have seen them knocked out of the automatic promotion spots by Bournemouth, while there have also been concerns over the style of play implemented by Valerien Ismael.

A West Brom supporter, however, has dismissed a theory that fans are not attending The Hawthorns due to the style of football playing.

Writing via his personal Twitter profile [21/09/21], Tenet actor and Albion fan Marsden replied: “Some West Brom fans are not happy unless they have something to moan about.

“[The] Same people were saying Val was the second coming. Fickle.”

Bumps in a long road

West Brom made such a good start to the season that their recent displays have looked downright awful in comparison.

Were their standards set too high? Or have they been wildly underperforming of late?

As ever, it’s probably somewhere in between.

There were concerns in August about the depth of the squad, and they appear to be rearing their head again now.

Injuries to Dara O’Shea and Matt Clarke, both key components of the Albion back three, have hurt Ismael’s side.

Their replacements have been inadequate, while there have been pertinent issues further up the field.

Karlan Grant has failed to fire while Jordan Hugill, a Norwich City loanee, was the only striker signed to combat the loss of Mbaye Diagne, Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu.

West Brom have a super team, but not a super squad, and it’s showing.

However, there is definite room for improvement, and after going eight Championship games undefeated, there are still positive signs.

A win at home to QPR on Friday could be crucial in turning the mood around.

In other West Brom news, Adrian Goldberg was furious with a ‘vile’ chant he heard from Albion fans about a rival club’s player on Saturday.
