Kevin Phillips delighted by goalscoring form of West Brom ace Karlan Grant
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has been impressed by the form of Karlan Grant with the West Brom forward scoring three goals in his last three Championship appearances.
Grant, 24, netted twice as Albion came from behind to beat QPR last week before scoring with a sweet finish in the 4-0 win at Cardiff earlier this week.
On Friday, the ex-Huddersfield man was anonymous as the Baggies saw their undefeated start to the league season end in Stoke.
However, Phillips has still been happy with Grant’s recent form with the striker suggesting he may have proven Super Kev wrong.
“Every striker needs that bit of luck. I’ve always asked, ‘who’s going to step up and score 20 goals to get out of that league?’,” said Phillips to West Brom News.
“You need someone like that but who’s going to do it? Karlan, from his recent performances, looks like he could be that man and I’m delighted for him.
“He’s shown he can score goals – he did at Huddersfield. But every striker needs a bit of luck and when you get that, you need to capitalise on it.
“He’s certainly done that with his goals recently, they’ve been really clinical finishes as well.”
Grant scored just once for West Brom last season despite the club agreeing a deal worth £15million to sign him from Huddersfield.
He’s now got four in 11 games this season, as well as two assists. However, Valerien Ismael still needs more from him to suggest he can spearhead his attack and help Albion win promotion back to the Premier League.
In other West Brom news, this big-money player may never pull on Albion’s colours again.
