Jamie Soule spotted training with West Brom first-team ahead of clash v Birmingham
Jamie Soule has been spotted training with the West Brom first-team ahead of their clash against Birmingham at The Hawthorns on Friday, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The newspaper reports on their website that Rayhaan Tulloch, Ethan Ingram, Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Caleb Taylor were also among the young Albion aces going through their paces ahead of the West Midlands derby.
Soule hasn’t played at all this season due to injury issues but it looks as though he’s on track to potentially feature in Valerien Ismael’s matchday squad for the clash with Blues.
Time to shine?
Soule is someone who we’ve heard big things about over the last few years but the 20-year-old is yet to really break into Albion’s senior squad.
Last summer, the young striker was sent on loan to Lincoln City in League One but that spell didn’t really work out.
Prior to that move, ex-West Brom coach and Lincoln manager at the time Michael Appleton waxed lyrical about Soule.
As quoted by LincolnshireLive, he said: “He’s not the biggest. He’s got a slight frame, but he’s quite aggressive. He doesn’t let his physical stature get in his way.
“He works very hard and is always looking to get in behind teams. His biggest attribute is probably his finishing ability.”
Soule scored once in his two appearances for the Imps in an EFL Trophy win over Mansfield. But other than that, he was barely a bench warmer for them in League One.
Soule returned to the Black Country in January and played well for the Under-23s in Premier League 2, notching three goals in seven appearances.
However, he suffered injury after injury and his development has no doubt been stunted by the events of the last couple of years.
Let’s see if Ismael does see Soule as someone who slots into his plans.
Albion are short of exciting options in the striker area so Soule could find himself above Kenneth Zohore in the pecking order now.
