Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom v Bristol City

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has tipped West Brom to bounce back from their disappointing loss against Swansea by beating Bristol City this weekend.

Albion welcome one of the Championship’s best away teams to The Hawthorns on Saturday as they bid to heal the wounds of their defeat in Swansea on Wednesday.

Karlan Grant’s first-minute goal wasn’t enough for the Baggies to return from Wales with anything to shout home about due to two second-half goals for Swansea.

Valerien Ismael’s second league defeat in charge of the Albion saw the Black Country club drop down to third in the Championship and six points behind leaders Bournemouth.

Bristol City’s season has been a mixed one with Nigel Pearson’s side boasting the third-best away record in the Championship but their dreadful home form sees them sit in a lowly 16th position in the standings.

Despite Albion’s recent woes and selection issues, Phillips is still backing his former club to win all three points against the Robins this weekend.

Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “The way they lost the other night was devastating. Conceding two goals in the last half an hour will knock the sideways.

But again I’m going to go for West Brom to bounce back. I’m going for them to win 2-1.”

Doubts surround the availability of Alex Mowatt and Grady Diangana for the game in the West Midlands while Jake Livermore is suspended after getting his fifth booking of the season at Swansea.
