West Brom treated unfairly over unpaid Ahmed Hegazi fees - Kevin Phillips
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
West Brom are getting the rough end of the stick from Al-Ittihad over alleged unpaid transfer fees for Ahmed Hegazi, according to Kevin Phillips.
Hegazi, 30, joined the Saudi Arabian outfit just over a year ago on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent.
The Express & Star reports that West Brom were speculated to have agreed a £2.5million permanent deal with Al-Ittihad but a complaint has now been paid to FIFA over what is left to be paid.
It is not known how much the Albion feel they’re still entitled to receive from Al-Ittihad but the Black Country club is hoping to hear back from FIFA soon as they aim to boost Valerien Ismael’s transfer funds for the January transfer window, which is now less than two months away from opening.
Phillips hopes a resolution is quickly made so that Ismael can plot his activity for the upcoming transfer window.
Speaking to West Brom News, he said: “You want money to go and strengthen the squad in January.
“Although they’ve got a squad, they haven’t got a huge squad so I think Ismael will want money to go and strengthen.
“From a business point of view, if you haven’t been paid for a player, I can’t say I know the ins and outs, but it just doesn’t seem right.
“It doesn’t surprise me with these foreign clubs. They do take their time to pay but with FIFA now involved, I’m sure it’ll get sorted at some point.
“It’s not ideal going into January with funds as tight as they are but the manager will have already identified players and it’s frustrating if he doesn’t have that money.”
After paying a compensation fee to hire Ismael as their new manager, West Brom’s transfer activity in the summer was limited to signing free agents and striking loan deals.
In other West Brom news, Phillips has hit out at Adrian Durham after what he said about Ismael.
