West Brom midfielder Toby King joins Billericay Town on loan

West Brom midfielder Toby King has joined National League South side Billericay Town on loan until January, as announced on the club’s official website.

The 19-year-old joined the Baggies under-18s from West Ham back in 2018, and he has been a regular for the under-23s in recent months.

King made his senior team bow for West Brom during the League Cup loss to Arsenal in August, coming off the bench to replace Robert Snodgrass with 16 minutes to go.

Good deal?

While the teenager has often featured in Albion’s Premier League 2 games in recent months, a loan move to the sixth tier of English football to get some experience could do him some good.

At 19, King needs to be tasting first-team football once in a while, but that is not possible at West Brom right now, with Valerien Ismael looking to fully concentrate on earning instant promotion with his men.

The Frenchman hardly has time for the youth teams right now, with Taylor Gardner-Hickman the only youth team player who has made another appearance since a lot of them featured against the Gunners.

The versatile teenager was handed his Championship debut against Hull City earlier this month with Darnell Furlong suspended, and he did very well in the 1-0 win.

With West Brom not lacking quality options in the middle of the park right now, King is not going to get a chance by remaining at The Hawthorns, and last weekend’s loan move is potentially career-defining.

Playing opportunities should not be hard for him to come by at Billericay Town, with Harry Wheeler’s side looking to stay up, and he will be looking to impress in the coming weeks, and that could open the doors for opportunities elsewhere higher up on the pyramid.
