Valerien Ismael has provided an update on West Brom man Dara O'Shea
Valerien Ismael has revealed that West Brom defender Dara O’Shea is making better progress than expected.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Frenchman discusses the Irishman’s recovery from an ankle injury suffered on international duty in September [Birmingham Mail].
The 22-year-old started the season well and was a key part of Ismael’s defence until he suffered this injury.
However, it seems as if he could be back pretty soon.
Ismael said: “Available earlier [than initially thought], I don’t know.
“It looks really good, but I’m not surprised. He has the mentality; he’s a warrior. You saw when he got the injury that he wanted to come back and continue playing, and his ankle was broken! Only Dara can do this.”
Great news for the Baggies.
Given that Ismael plays with a back three, his centre-backs are important to the way he plays and the fact that O’Shea could be back sooner than expected is great news.
The Republic of Ireland international scored two goals at the start of the season and looked to be the Baggies’ best defender.
They have managed to get by without him, but it would certainly be better if he makes an early return.
Clearly, in the short time they have been together, O’Shea has done enough to impress Ismael with his attitude and determination.
Hopefully, he is back in the first team soon, but the Baggies can’t rush him back in case he suffers a setback or anything like that.
So though it is a positive update, West Brom have to be careful with O’Shea if they want him to play an important role in the rest of the season.
In other West Brom news, Ismael has revealed his expectations ahead of the Huddersfield game.
