West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone against January exit

West Brom plans to sell Sam Johnstone in the January transfer window do not suit the England international, according to a report in The Sun.

In the Sunday edition of the paper, (Pg 62, 12/12/2021), it is claimed that the Baggies hoped to cash in on the 28-year-old in the upcoming window.

However, despite his deal running out at the end of the season, this plan does not suit the English goalkeeper.

West Ham are understood to be favourites to secure his signature while Tottenham and Southampton are also keen on his services.

Strange

If Johnstone, a player labelled “fantastic” by Kevin Phillips, is that keen on moving away from the club, then he should not mind an exit in January.

He knows that clubs are run as a business and they would rather get some money from his sale rather than let him leave on a free.

Whether or not the interested sides make an offer in the winter, remains to be seen.

West Brom

Teams generally enter the January market only if they’re desperate to sign anyone to fill a void in their squads.

The Hammers have two goalkeepers fighting for a first-team berth so they might only need a keeper at the end of the season.

There’s a good chance that Spurs and Southampton look for one next month and if the Baggies are intent on cashing in, then they must offer the England international around to drive up interest.
