West Brom Super Fans slam Darnell Furlong after goalless draw v Barnsley

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our West Brom News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

West Brom Super Fans have blasted Darnell Furlong for his underwhelming performance during the goalless draw against Barnsley.

The Baggies were held to a goalless draw at Oakwell on Friday (17 December), missing out on a chance to close the gap between them and the top-two.

Mick McCarthy was on Sky Sports Main Event, and he singled out the right-back for criticism during the half-time analysis of the game after his attempted cross into the box on one occasion could not find a teammate despite the presence of three strikers in the area.

We asked our esteemed panel of West Brom Super Fans how they rated Furlong’s performance against The Tykes, and here’s what they had to say…

Furlong has been involved in just two assists this season despite featuring in 22 Championship games, and that speaks volumes.

He is always getting into a good position, but his deliveries often keep letting him down.

The right wing-back position should be a very crucial one for Albion given the number of chances anyone there can create.

They struggled against relegation-threatened Barnsley, and while Furlong is not to be blamed for the drab draw, he definitely should have done better.

The versatile Taylor Gardner-Hickman featured at left wing-back during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Reading, and it is clear to see why many want him playing regularly after such an assuring performance.

Valerien Ismael will not be dropping Furlong anytime soon, though, but the 26-year-old really needs to up his game.

He is failing to make the most of his potential to become a constant creative outlet for the side, and the fans are far from impressed.
