West Brom want to sign Cauley Woodrow in January - report
West Brom are looking into a potential deal to sign Barnsley attacker Cauley Woodrow in the January window, according to The Athletic.
Valerien Ismael is crying out for another talisman in his squad, with goals far too hard to come by in the final third this season.
It is reported that with 18 months remaining on his contract, it would require a fee next month to bring Woodrow to The Hawthorns.
Daryl Dike is another name that has been thrown around.
It would be hard to get him across from the United States, but has another player who has worked under Ismael in the past, he will know what he is getting.
Both shined in the Championship at Oakwell last season in the Frenchman’s system, and it would be smart business to bring either in.
Ismael made a blatant call for a new striker after the 0-0 draw last night, and Guochuan Lai is in England so will have heard them directly.
After watching last night, it is clear that a striker needs to be brought in.
Jordan Hugill had yet another absolute nightmare in the final third and simply isn’t good enough to be starting for the Baggies.
With more than half of the goal open and begging to be hit, the striker smashed the ball straight at the defender and it led to scores finishing 0-0.
In the Championship automatic promotion race, you need to be picking up three points every single week, and Hugill’s miss was the difference between that and one.
Having worked together and making him vice-captain behind Alex Mowatt at Barnsley, Ismael is clearly a huge fan of the former Fulham man.
It looks as though Dike is still the main target, though, and if we start nearing the end of January with no success, a move could be launched for Woodrow – time will tell.
