West Brom to permit goalkeeper Alex Palmer to leave on loan

West Brom are reportedly open to the idea of letting reserve goalkeeper Alex Palmer leave the club on loan in the January window.

According to Birmingham Live, if the right move comes along, the Baggies will permit him to leave until the end of the season in order to see he gets first-team minutes.

However, this move hinges on Sam Johnstone’s future and he will stay at the club should the England international be sold.

Needs minutes

There were talks about making Palmer the number one in the summer when it looked like Johnstone was on his way out.

A host of Premier League clubs were keen on signing Johnstone and he realistically seemed to have played his last game for the Baggies.

However, he did stay on which saw Palmer relegated to being a backup once again, which has not been ideal for him.

At 25, he would feel that he deserves to play week in and week out and that’s not something that has happened this season.

Palmer has been labelled an “outstanding” talent by Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe in 2019.

Hopefully, another Championship or Scottish Premiership club comes in for him in the January window as he deserves a chance at this level or one similar as he could be the club’s first choice for next season.
