Kevin Phillips: West Brom must look to sign goal-scoring midfielder
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips claims that West Brom are probably looking to sign a midfielder who can get into the box and score goals.
With Robert Snodgrass’ time at the club seemingly reaching its end, Phillips believes that it’s time for the Baggies to delve into the transfer market.
He also is of the opinion, that signing a player like that would help add to the goals in the squad.
Valerien Ismael’s side have struggled to find the back of the net with loan signing Jordan Hugill struggling and Callum Robinson not hitting top form.
Speaking to West Brom news, Phillips said, “Definitely, I don’t think there’s one player in that team who can get you 20 goals a season.
“To get promoted, you need a player like that to get goals around so I think that will be one of the processes.
“They need to get a goal-scoring midfielder but that’s easier said than done. They’re few and far between.
“But I think if you can get a player in who’s not afraid to pull the trigger, and get in and around the box, is a player they’re probably looking to get.
“Someone who can get in the box and try and get you goals.”
After the 1-0 loss to Derby, Ismael’s men find themselves in fourth place in the Championship.
They have won just two of their last five games and have played a game more than Fulham and Blackburn Rovers who are second and third respectively.
