Kevin Phillips backs Okay Yokuslu to thrive at West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has urged West Brom to bring back Celta Vigo midfielder Okay Yokuslu in January as his experience may rub off on the rest of the players.
The Turkey international spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hawthorns and was one of the best players under Sam Allardyce.
He established himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park and despite the Baggies getting relegated, he managed to stand out on a number of occasions.
According to Spanish media outlet La Voz De Galicia, the 27-year-old is understood to be keen on returning to West Brom.
Despite not working with him, Valerien Ismael is believed to be keen on securing the player’s services.
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said, “I think he’s not going to get goals.
“But he is a sold player and it’s down to the club whether they can get him back or not.
“I don’t know about bringing back a player who’s done well at the club because sometimes they come back and don’t do as well.
“I think he’ll settle in, no problem. His experience at this stage of the season could be a big help.
“I think he would be a decent signing just because of his experience.”
The Turkish midfielder’s deal at the clubs runs out in 2023 so Celta do not appear under any pressure to cash in on the player in January.
However, given Robert Snodgrass’ uncertain future, the Baggies could push for a midfield signing next month.
