Kevin Phillips: West Brom could make two new signings in January, creative midfielder top of list
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom could make two new signings before the end of the January transfer window.
The ex-Baggies talisman wants to see a new creative midfielder through the door at The Hawthorns to help with goals in the final third.
Daryl Dike has already been confirmed as the first permanent arrival for the Albion, who could also look to target another defender.
“I’d like to see a goalscoring midfielder,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“I know Mowatt has chipped in with a few, but I think when you look at them front players, they are all kind of similar.
“It’s good now there is another striker in, I’d like to see a really creative attacking midfielder, maybe change the system and only have one sitting. Let’s go down that route.
“A good creative midfielder and possibly another centre-halve, if they could get one that could come in and be happy not to play every week.”
Dike has been signed to deal with that goalscoring issue, but it is clear that he can’t do it all by himself.
Having Alex Mowatt and Jake Livermore in a midfield two hasn’t helped going forward, so another creative signing could push Valerien Ismael to change things around.
With more than three weeks to go, there is plenty of time for the Baggies to get busy and two new arrivals would definitely help.
