Kevin Phillips: Deal for Jordan Hugill to leave West Brom should happen quickly

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns

Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom loanee Jordan Hugill returning to Norwich should happen “quickly”.

The ex-Baggies talisman admitted that the arrival of Daryl Dike earlier this week should trigger a recall for the Canaries player.

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has already reported during this window that the plan has been for Hugill to return to Carrow Road.

Phillips believes that the Baggies need one or two more signings still this month, and Hugill leaving quickly could help that.

“I would say so,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“It always takes something to trigger an effect for other players, that hasn’t quite worked out, has it for Hugill?

“I’d imagine he’d go back to Norwich, and probably go back out on loan somewhere else, and that has a knock-on effect for other people.

“I’d like to see one or two more come through the door for West Brom, but I think that exit will happen pretty quickly, to be honest.”

Given that it has been reported that this was the plan for the January window, it is a surprise that it hasn’t already happened.

Valerien Ismael can’t be happy with what he has seen from the striker, with some of his finishing simply Sunday league level.

Now the Frenchman has been reunited with Dike at The Hawthorns, it is time for a new era to begin in the final third, and that is desperately needed.
