Kevin Phillips: West Brom can still earn automatic promotion to Premier League
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom can still earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
The ex-Baggies talisman has been encouraged by the signing of Daryl Dike in January, adding much-needed firepower in the final third.
Valerien Ismael has admitted that some players will have to leave before any more potential signings are made to strengthen the side.
Phillips insisted that keeping everyone fit will be the main factor behind the Baggies going up or staying down.
“I think they’ve already shown this season when they’ve come up against teams that they’re as good as anyone in the league on their day, it’s just been a bit inconsistent,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“Dike coming in will add that fresh impetus, a different dynamic. they can definitely challenge, it’s just whether they can keep everyone fit week in, week out.
“There’s enough firepower, I know they haven’t got that out and out striker who has got them 15-20 goals, but there’s enough in that offensive lineup that can get them goals to challenge the top two.
“It’s a challenge, but it’s definitely doable.”
More than that.
COVID has hit the Baggies hard in the past couple of months, with injuries also playing some part at The Hawthorns.
With Dara O’Shea coming back though, there aren’t really any injury problems, but yet we still have numbers missing.
The main problem appears to be the discipline within the squad, something that needs to be addressed or it will start to take points away every single week.
