Kevin Phillips: Sam Johnstone may have played final game for West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns

Kevin Phillips has insisted that Sam Johnstone may have played his final game for West Brom this month.

The ex-Baggies talisman admitted that with two more games on his suspension, a big-money offer could turn his head in January.

Premier League clubs have been queuing up for his signature, with the West Ham Way reporting that the Irons are the favourites.

“There is always a possibility,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“Money talks, and with the situation the way it is, if a big-money offer came, from a business point of view, sometimes it’s hard to turn to down.

“I hope he doesn’t leave, I hope he stays and tries to see the job through and help them get promoted. It’s so hard to predict.

“If a big club came in, I’m pretty sure he’d want something to happen. Until that window closes, anything could happen. Gut feeling, I don’t think he’ll leave.”

The suspension was unnecessary, but it would be a real hammer blow if that was his final game for the Baggies.

Having said that, Premier League clubs rarely make huge January moves unless they very much need to.

West Ham may have been reported as favourites, but they have Lukasz Fabianski and Alphonse Areola as their options.

For now, it looks as though Valerien Ismael is safe, although things can move very quickly in the next couple of weeks – fingers crossed.
