West Brom loanee Morton is ready to test himself in the Championship

Callum Morton completed his loan move from West Brom to Peterborough yesterday (13 January) as he hopes to prove he is ready for the step up.

The 21-year-old has already had success during loan spells in League Two and League One and he now has the chance to kick on in the Championship.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony is hoping to make the loan deal permanent in the summer but should he excel at London Road, Valerien Ismael may be tempted to keep him at the Hawthorns.

“I need to prove to people at West Brom I can do it at this level with the aim of going back there and playing,” Morton said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“Of course, my focus is on the here and now and I want to score goals and influence games.

“Maybe the goals haven’t come as prolifically as I would have liked in the last couple of loans, but hopefully the goals will come here.”

Last Chance

Morton’s West Brom future hangs in the balance and it could all depend on his performances in a Peterborough shirt this season.

This is the fifth loan of his career having previously spent time at Braintree Town, Northampton Town, Lincoln City and, most recently, Fleetwood Town.

His highly energetic attacking player has earned him plenty of admirers during his time away from the Hawthorns and Posh fans can expect more of the same.

His goal tallies might not be anything incredible but he isn’t an attacker who should be judged purely on goals.

His selfless work upfront often creates opportunities for his teammates and sacrificing his own glory for the good of the team is a much-desired trait.

Should he kick on in the Championship with Posh, Morton could find himself a key part of Ismael’s West Brom next season.
