West Brom make approach to sign Lazio player Vedat Muriqi

West Brom approached Lazio with an enquiry about striker Vedat Muriqi last night (Thursday), according to Enrico De Lellis.

The Reppublica journalist wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday night that the Baggies enquired about the 27-year-old “a few hours ago”.

It is understood that Leeds are also interested in Muriqi and no agreement has been reached with anyone just yet.

On Thursday, Turkish news outlet A Spor reported that Muriqi was travelling to the UK to sign for the Albion but that no longer seems to be the case.

Move on

West Brom do not need Muriqi.

Daryl Dike was signed from Orlando City at the start of January and while our striker options away from him are not great – as Albion’s goalscoring record suggests this season – we simply do not need another.

Muriqi joined Lazio last year from Fenerbahce and has since scored two goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

While the Serie A is a much better league than the Championship, would we be happy if we signed a striker with that goalscoring record from the Premier League? No, we wouldn’t.

Valerien Ismael hasn’t done much business this month with Dike being his only signing while one or two loanees have returned or being sent out by the club.

But it’s about time that the Baggies move through the gears and spend some of the money that they’ve surely been sitting on since the summer when Matheus Pereira was sold to Al-Hilal.
