West Brom want Barnsley defender Liam Kitching
West Brom are keen on signing Barnsley defender Liam Kitching during the winter transfer window, according to Sunday Mirror.
The print edition of the newspaper (page 65, 16 January) reports that Birmingham City are also keen on the 22-year-old as Valerien Ismael eyes a reunion.
However, the Tykes appear set to resist any offers as they fight desperately against relegation to League One.
West Brom are without Semi Ajayi and Dara O’Shea at the moment, and that could prompt Ismael into strengthening at the back.
The Frenchman brought Kitching to Oakwell from Forest Green in January 2021, and it seems he is looking to raid his old club.
The Englishman has featured in 16 Championship games this term, weighing in with an assist after injuries limited him to just two appearances for Barnsley during the second half of 2020-21.
Albion suffered their sixth defeat of the campaign at the hands of Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (15 January) and have now shipped 20 goals.
Despite it being the best defensive record in the league, West Brom can definitely still improve at the back, and Kitching could be a solid addition to the department.
The Baggies have found themselves in fifth place in the table after recent struggles, and failure to get in quality additions this month could affect their promotion chances.
They have added Daryl Dike to the squad already, but they need more signings to boost their chances of playing Premier League football in the summer.
