West Brom made late bid to sign Matt O'Riley
West Brom made a late attempt to sign Matt O’Riley from MK Dons, according to reports from The Daily Record.
The Baggies made an 11th-hour bid to hijack Celtic’s move for the highly-rated youngster, but he is now on his way to join the Glasgow club.
The Bhoys had agreed a £1.5million fee for the player. He has travelled to the north for his medical.
It has been reported that the player’s representatives are expected to be in Glasgow today to sort out personal terms on a long-term deal.
The 21-yar-old is one of the stand-out performers for the League One side.
A hots of clubs including Swansea, Blackburn and Huddersfield were keen to sign the player, but the Baggies had made an official approach.
However, it was too late.
The youngster came through the youth ranks at Fulham before joining the Dons.
He has managed seven goals and five assists this season and would have been a fantastic signing for the club.
West Brom have made one signing in the January window already, with Daryl Dike joining from Orlando.
This has come out of the blue. One cannot help but wonder why didn’t they push hard for him before?
West Brom are chasing for promotion to the Premier League this season. They are fifth in the Championship table, seven points behind third-placed Blackburn Rovers, having played a game less.
