Kevin Phillips thrilled by West Brom return of Kyle Bartley v Peterborough
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips was left thrilled as Kyle Bartley returned from injury for West Brom in their win over Peterborough.
The ex-Baggies talisman admitted it was vital for Valerien Ismael to get back one of his leaders among the starting XI.
Bartley has been a mainstay at The Hawthorns for years now, with his presence sorely missed when ruled out of action.
“It always is,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“When you’ve got a big, solid centre-halve, it’s not just that, he is a leader. He organises, and his experience, again from the managers’ point of view at this stage of the season, you’d rather have that.”
This was a brilliant boost.
The Albion have been shipping goals far too easily in recent weeks and months, with consistency needed badly.
Injuries and COVID have been rife in the squad, and Bartley’s return will hopefully be the start of a run for these three at the back.
Matt Clarke and Cedric Kipre either side of Bartley looked solid over the weekend, and it is time to build on that as the games continue to come thick and fast.
