Jeff Stelling reacts to Andy Carroll goal in ‘Nothing’ West Brom clash v Blackpool

Jeff Stelling was far from bothered after Andy Carroll opened the scoring for West Brom against Blackpool this afternoon.

The Sky Sports host insisted it was a “nothing” game at The Hawthorns, with no real play-off hopes for either side.

Steve Bruce would like to think otherwise, but he would need a miracle to end up in the top six this season.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Gilette Soccer Special today [15 April, 03:42 pm] Stelling wasn’t too bothered about what happened.

“West Brom lead Blackpool there, it’s a nothing game really,” he said.

“Andy Carroll with the goal.”

Futures.

It may look like a nothing game for Stelling, but for everyone in this West Brom team, it could mean everything.

The likes of Carroll see their contracts run out at the end of this season, and if he wants a new one, he needs to start scoring.

It was a perfect start for him in his race to prove he has what it takes, winning the flick on and then getting into the box to tap a deep cross home.

You can see that Carroll has relished the challenge at The Hawthorns, and we could do much worst than keeping him around next season.

Even as an impact sub behind the likes of Daryl Dike, the Baggies need more dangerous options in the final third than what we have seen.

In terms of options in the final third, the likes of Kenneth Zohore should be more worried about their futures, never mind Carroll.
