Kevin Phillips reacts as West Brom could keep Romaine Sawyers next season

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom should look to bring in new faces rather than keep Romaine Sawyers around beyond this season.

The ex-Baggies talisman admitted that his future will be “seriously” considered with his contract expiring in the summer.

It has been reported by The Athletic that Steve Bruce is a fan and the Albion have a matter of weeks to make their decision.

“I think it would be one of those, you’d have to seriously consider,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“It hasn’t gone well and it’s been a difficult time for him of late at West Brom with obviously not being involved and not being there.

It would be a big decision to bring him back and make him one of those pivotal guys for next season.

It may be one of those where those players have to move on and just freshen the squad up completely and bring fresh faces in, come to the club who don’t know what it’s about – they’re eager and fresh. I would imagine whoever is in charge would go down that route.”

Kick him to the curb.

Phillips admitting that Sawyers should likely leave and be replaced by a fresh face is certainly the route we need to go down.

If he wasn’t good enough this season in our first campaign back from the Premier League, what would make him ready for next season?

Bruce being a fan should be irrelevant, as it isn’t 100% certain whether he will be back in charge next season.
