Kevin Phillips shares where West Brom must target in summer transfer window

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has shared that West Brom need at least four new signings ahead of the summer transfer window.

The ex-Baggies talisman has insisted that the entire spine needs looking at, with a goalkeeper, defence, midfield and the final third all mentioned.

Phillips admitted that a busy summer of incomings and outgoings is ahead for Steve Bruce, who is set to take charge next season.

“I think a goalkeeper,” he exclusively told West Brom News. “Sam Johnstone is going to move on so they need another goalkeeper.

“I think the spine of the team is crucial, they need another centre-halve. I think they need to freshen it up down that spine, a centre-midfielder, a creative player, maybe four players.

“An out and out goalscorer, a solid forward that is going to guarantee you 15-20 goals a season.

“If I’m going to spend the money at West Brom, I would look at the spine – there’s certainly going to be some comings and goings at the club.”

Bruce will already be planning for the window ahead, with big changes needed to transform the fortunes of the club.

Daryl Dike may be classed as the new striker after his injury woes since arriving in January, so that may be one box ticked already.

David Button may also be handed the gloves with Alex Palmer behind him as a covering option, so that is another area sorted.

So, that leaves defence and midfield where big changes are certainly needed – could there be four arrivals there? Time will tell.
