Kevin Phillips shares reservations as West Brom linked with Jed Wallace and John Swift
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has admitted he has reservations about West Brom links with John Swift and Jed Wallace in the summer.
The ex-Baggies forward warned against going for experienced options which haven’t worked in the past before, instead tipping younger players.
The two midfield talisman are available for free once the window opens with their contracts expiring in the next month.
“I think when you talk about experience, they have got that,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“Certainly Swift, he has been around and technically he is a very good player, but for me, they have been down that route before and has it really paid off? Not really.
“It’s clear that West Brom need to bring a goalscorer in, someone who is going to score them regularly but in terms of experience, maybe, you want look at something different and bring in young, hungry players that are going to give you something else.
“I would have slight reservations.”
Steve Bruce will want to put his own twist on this squad, and that will include experienced trusted options.
That is exactly how the manager works and has worked in the past with spells at Hull and Aston Villa.
We expect younger, hungrier players to come from the academy like Taylor Gardner-Hickman has throughout this season.
Swift and Wallace have taken the Championship by storm in recent years, and they would surely help spearhead a promotion push should they arrive over the summer.
