Steve Bruce eyes 'five or six' new players for West Brom in transfer window
Steve Bruce has insisted that West Brom need to sign half a team in a “brutally honest” summer transfer window admission.
A major rebuild is set to hit the Hawthorns at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign as the Baggies sit tenth ahead of the last game of their season tomorrow.
The former Newcastle boss called for patience as Albion aim to bring in suitable targets ahead of the last year of his contract.
Bruce told Birmingham Live: “Five or six – we need half a team. And hopefully, we will get a few of those in before the start of pre-season.”
“Loans are always a bit later, and you have to be a bit shrewder in the market.
“Let’s be brutally honest, the bigger clubs will have a look at their younger players and then make a decision on whether they are going to keep them or not. We have to be a bit patient there.
“But I would expect three or four before we kick off the season, ideally I’d like them in for pre-season. It gives you the ideal opportunity to work with them so it would be nice if we could.”
Based on this season, West Brom doesn’t need half a team, they need a whole new squad.
It would be far quicker to name the players that deserve to stay at the club with the majority of the players performing so bad throughout the season.
Maybe in a rejuvenated team that has been lifted with several signings after a full pre-season with Bruce, many of them can rediscover their form but as this season drags to an end it is very difficult to have hope.
All of the fans’ hopes are pegged on the transfer window and bringing in a host of players that will take Albion to the Premier League but this is West Brom we are talking about – a club that doesn’t love to part with their money.
Hopefully, they are able to bring in some very effective loan players from Premier League clubs who will be eager to prove themselves. That has worked in the past and it will have to do again.
