Jeff Stelling: West Brom have had 'abysmal' season despite win v Barnsley

Jeff Stelling has raged live on Sky Sports at West Brom despite their final day win of the season against Barnsley.

The Baggies will have to settle for another season in the Championship after a disappointing mid-campaign collapse.

Karlan Grant, Adam Reach and Matt Clarke sealed a big win for the Albion at The Hawthorns against the Tykes, but Stelling did not care one bit.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gilette Soccer Saturday [07 May, 13:10], Stelling did not hold back with his assessment.

“West Brom – what an abysmal season for them,” he said.

“At least West Brom are ahead today. It’s been a shocker of a campaign that’s for sure.”

Abysmal.

After starting the season on fire under Valerien Ismael, it appears impossible that we would be in this position now.

Steve Brice is now in charge of the club, and he is already gearing up for another shot at promotion to the Premier League next season.

Going into this game with Barnsley, we were hoping that it would have been the perfect finish to the season where promotion was the goal.

That wasn’t the case, and it appeared as though today was the first time we have seen the shackles come off – that isn’t good enough.

This is how we must play every week, and that will be the message that Bruce puts across to his squad all across pre-season.

It was a shocker, and we have to make sure that is put right on the second time of trying to get back into the Premier League.
