Senior duo return in two changes - West Brom confirmed XI v Barnsley

West Brom have confirmed their starting XI for their Championship clash against Barnsley this afternoon [May 7] at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies will be looking to end the season with a win against already relegated Barnsley with the opportunity to finish the season rather underwhelmingly in ninth should Blackburn lose too.

Confirmed prior to kick off on Twitter, Steve Bruce decided to bring Darnell Furlong and Matt Clarke back into the starting XI in two Albion changes.

Final hurdle.

West Brom needs to end the season on a high.

Of course, it wouldn’t change anything at all with Albion being that bad this season, their fate was determined several months ago.

It would be a booster in terms of morale amongst the players, fans and Bruce ahead of next season though and that is crucial.

The former Newcastle manager failed to get a good or consistent enough tune out of these players since taking over from Valerien Ismael and he will be desperate to get that right next season.

If he doesn’t, that will almost certainly be the end of his Hawthorns career with only one year left on his contract.

There is a huge rebuild lined up this summer and who the Baggies bring in and more importantly get rid of will be key in their fight for the Premier League next campaign.

If Bruce is given all of the right tools there is no doubt he can guide the Baggies to promotion – no manager has done it more times than the former hull City boss.

With that being said, undergoing a rebuild under a manager that might not have a long-term future at the club mightn’t be the best idea.

In other West Brom news, Albion are set for a “huge battle” to sign a 33 G/A wonder in a major summer deal according to a report.
