West Brom flooded with loan offers for youngster Caleb Taylor
West Brom defender Caleb Taylor has been attracting interest from a number of League One and League Two clubs with the prospect of a loan move in the pipeline.
As reported by the Shropshire Star on Thursday [12 May], the towering centre-half is attracting plenty of attention after an outstanding season for the Baggies’ under-23s this term.
Taylor made his Championship debut in West Brom’s win over Barnsley as the Baggies’ disappointing Championship campaign came to a close.
Albion manager Steve Bruce has made it clear he wants to look at Taylor in the preseason.
As quoted by the Shropshire Star, Bruce said: “He [Taylor] has done fantastically well, I am delighted for him.
“The problem is we have six centre backs.
“But he has always been in my thoughts and we’ll have another look at him in pre-season.”
A loan move is a good option
A loan would be a good move for the 19-year-old.
The Baggies have a plethora of defensive options and game time may be hard to come by for the youngster.
At 19, it is crucial that he is playing regular first-team football and not merely experiencing youth and under-23s fixtures.
Going out on loan to League One or Two side would develop the physical side of his game as well as getting him much needed first team minutes.
A loan move to Lincoln could be a good option.
The Baggies have sent players to Scincil bank in the last two seasons with Josh Griffiths and Alex Palmer both featuring in goal for the Imps.
However, with news of Michael Appleton’s departure, the link between the Baggies and the Imps could well have diminished.
Being a tall centre half will make him hot property in the lower echelons of the EFL.
After assessing his ability, a loan move seems the most sensible move for the young defender.
