West Brom make contact with Newcastle United officials for Elliot Anderson loan
West Brom have made contact to try and sign Newcastle United sensation Elliot Anderson on loan, according to the Northern Echo.
The newspaper have reported on their website that the Baggies opened talks with the officials of the mega-rich club, but initial plans are to let the playmaker start pre-seaosn with them.
Should that change, Anderson is facing interest from not just West Brom, but also Reading, Stoke and Sheffield Wednesdaymoving into the 2022-23 season.
Eddie Howe is keen to run the rule over the Scottish sensation after his brilliant season with Bristol Rovers under Joey Barton last time out, which ended in promotion to League One.
The expectation is still that Anderson will be sent out on loan though, with Newcastle no doubt set to make some big-money moves in this summer window.
Barton is said to be also keen on keeping Anderson around, but the increase in competition is surely set to make that one a very unrealistic dream.
Steve Bruce is clearly crying out for that in his new-look squad for the 2022-23 season.
Alex Mowatt was the only midfielder to really carry a threat going forward in the last campaign, and now we have already seen John Swift arrive after his contract at Reading expired.
Along with an official offer for Jed Wallace that appears to be on the table [Express and Star], contact being made for Anderson proves that the Baggies are going all out.
The 19-year-old scored eight goals and added five assists in his 21 games last season in League Two, and although the Championship is a huge step up, he clearly has the attributes to succeed.
Bruce may only be able to offer a squad rotation role to the youngster though, and that could be something that sees the deal put at risk.
Time will tell, but this could be yet another exciting, creative signing, even if just on loan.
