Millwall first-team coach Paul Robinson 'will be devastated' if Jed Wallace moves to West Brom

Former West Brom defender and current Millwall first-team coach Paul Robinson “will be devastated” if Jed Wallace leaves The Den to join the Baggies.

The former Wolves attacker is out of contract at Millwall at the end of June having been at the London club since 2016.

The Express and Star revealed on 13 June that the Baggies have tabled an offer to the 28-year-old and are awaiting his decision.

However, Robison still harbours hope of the influential winger remaining at The Den.

Robinson told the Baggies Broadcast Podcast on Wednesday 15 June [as quoted by the Express and Star]: “If he does go to West Brom I will be devastated but I will be delighted for Jed because I’ll know he’ll be signing for a great club and I’ll be phoning him to tell him what a great club it is.

“But nothing is done yet.

“I am still hoping he will stay a Millwall player and by the time it gets to pre-season he is with us.”

Statement

If Wallace makes the move to The Hawthorns then it will be a big statement of intent from the Baggies and Steve Bruce.

The winger would join John Swift at the Baggies and provide creativity that is desperately needed to turn Bruce’s side into a more potent attacking threat.

Whether the midfielder makes the move to The Hawthorns remains to be seen with the 28-year-old likely to have an array of options.

It is good to see Bruce targeting attacking players early on in the window, as it was glaringly obvious that the Baggies lack of firepower was the main reason for their slump to a tenth-placed Championship finish last season.

West Brom should fancy their chances of luring Wallace to The Hawthorns.

Realistically, regardless of the Baggies poor 2021/22 campaign, they’re one of the biggest clubs in the Championship at present and have enjoyed more Premier League experience than most second tier teams

It will be a massive task for Bruce to turn West Brom into promotion contenders again.

However, if the West Brom boss can bring Wallace into his side then the Baggies would start to look like a real threat to the promotion places.

In other West Brom news, local pride has to be set aside in the transfer market to give us a chance of signing this goalscorer who enjoyed a fruitful Championship spell last season.
