Jed Wallace medical underway at West Brom as Nottingham Forest lose transfer race

Jed Wallace is undergoing a medical at West Brom ahead of a free transfer to The Hawthorns, according to The Athletic journalist Elias Burke.

Writing on The Athletic’s live transfer blog on Wednesday (22 June), Burke reported that Wallace, 28, has rejected a new contract at Millwall and is now set to join the Baggies once that deal expires later this month.

It is understood that Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Besiktas were also linked with a move for Wallace but Albion seem as though they’re about to win the race for the former Wolves attacker.

London News Online claims that a deal for Wallace is on the verge of completion and he’ll be West Brom’s third signing of the summer after Jayson Molumby and John Swift.

Best signing of the summer?

Based on the fact that Wallace will be arriving at West Brom as a free agent, it suggests that Steve Bruce’s aim this summer is to sign players who aren’t going to cost the club the earth.

Of course, there are other fees involved in signing Wallace such as a signing-on fee, agent fee and he’s bound to be demanding big wages as it’s been reported that the deal he turned down at Millwall was quite lucrative.

But even if this deal for Wallace wasn’t a free transfer, we’d still be pleased with it.

Wallace is as experienced as it gets in the EFL.

Across spells at Millwall and Wolves he’s played 229 times in the Championship while he also made over 100 appearances in League One and League Two with Portsmouth, as well as the Lions.

In the 2021/22 campaign, Wallace was in superb form for Millwall, scoring six goals and supplying 11 assists in 37 Championship appearances to help the London club finish ninth – one place above the Albion.

Wallace is primarily a right-winger but he can also play inside and as a striker.

Albion have been crying out for a right-winger because too many of their attackers like to be on the left so they can cut inside onto their right foot.

But in Wallace, Bruce has a winger capable of getting crosses into the box, cutting inside and scoring.

We’re absolutely delighted with this one.

In other West Brom news, Albion are also in advanced talks to sign another new player at The Hawthorns this summer.
