Steve Bruce wants to add Premier League loanees to his West Brom squad
Steve Bruce wants to delve into the Premier League loan market as the West Brom boss looks for further arrivals at The Hawthorns.
West Brom have made four summer signings this summer and with three free agents joining Jayson Molumby at the Black Country club.
However, the Baggies boss has suggested that any further arrivals will likely be temporary deals from Premier League clubs.
As quoted by Birmingham Live on Wednesday 3 August, Bruce said: “It’s been great to have Swift and Wallace with us throughout pre-season, but we’d love a couple more.
“My job is to keep knocking on the door to see if we can.
“The big clubs are about to start with their younger players so we have to be aware of that market.
“We’ll see what we can do to improve.”
This is a smart decision from the West Brom boss and could work really well with a combination of experience and youth at The Hawthorns.
Bruce’s current recruitment model is very much targeting experienced Championship players.
However, unproven Premier League youngsters can often prove to be excellent acquisitions for second-tier sides.
If Bruce can add two or three fresh faces to his squad, with one being a striker, then the Baggies will be in an excellent position to challenge at the right end of the table this summer.
Sometimes younger players are thrown into first-team football without the right experience around them, but that shouldn’t be an issue for the Baggies.
Bruce certainly has some excellent connections in the Premier League after stints and Aston Villa and more recently Newcastle United.
It would not be a surprise to see the West Brom manager look to his old employees for any youngsters that may need more first-team football.
