Steve Bruce confirms enquiries for West Brom youngsters Ethan Ingram, Zac Ashworth

West Brom manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that enquiries have been made regarding the future of young full-backs Ethan Ingram and Zac Ashworth.

The duo has been highly-rated in the football community and there have been contrasting reports about their future at the club this summer.

Bruce, while talking to Birmingham Live, revealed that there have been some enquiries for the youngers but no decision has been made at the club.

“We’ve got to see where we are with that. We’ve had one or two enquiries for both of them. We’ve just got to see where we are – my philosophy has always been to let them go and flourish,” Bruce said.

“However we’ve got to be mindful of the fact that we’ve got to keep enough back for this team, they’re with us at the moment in the first-team group.”

Promising

Steve Bruce is famous for turning youngsters into first-teamers but by all accounts, there should be no way to keep the duo at the club.

There can be a case for Ashworth to stay at The Hawthorns as there is only one outright left-back at West Brom in Conor Townsend and an injury to him might prove to be disastrous for the club.

However, with having two players to play in the right-back position in Darnell Furlong and Taylor Gardner-Hickman, there should be no way to keep someone as promising as Ingram at the club because he can get useful first-team minutes elsewhere.

It is also important for West Brom to not have a big squad as having too many players in a similar position can create an atmosphere where there is trouble inside the dressing room, something Bruce would not want, especially in a season where all eyes will be on him and the club in a bid to secure a return to the Premier League.
