Sky Sports man reacts to ‘awful’ Josh Griffiths moment in West Brom 2-2 draw v QPR

Sky Sports commentator Jon Driscoll blasted West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths for his “awful” error in their 2-2 draw with QPR on Monday [10 April].

After racing to a 2-0 lead within 15 minutes at The Hawthorns through Brandon Thomas-Asante and Semi Ajayi, Carlos Corberan’s side blew their lead and their chance to close the gap to the playoff places

The result leaves West Brom currently sitting five points off Blackburn Rovers thanks to a costly error from the young goalkeeper, after his attempted clearance ricocheted into the net off Chris Martin to end relegation-threatened QPR’s four-match losing streak.

And in footage released by Sky Sports on Monday [10 April] showing the error, commentator Driscoll blasted Griffiths for his mistake.

He said: “Oh Charged down! Queens Park Rangers are level, Chris Martin!

“It’s an awful moment for Josh Griffiths, the ball got away from him and Martin just took a gamble, closed him down and it could have gone anywhere but it ricocheted firmly into the West Brom goal.”

Costly

After such a promising run around the turn of the year, Corberan’s Baggies have disappointingly bowed out of the Championship playoff race with a whimper, despite being just five points apart from sixth place.

Corberan’s side was at one point one of the bookies’ favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League, but because of their terrible form and injury plight right now, those ambitions look increasingly bleak.

West Brom

With the Baggies just having one job in trying to keep out QPR for the remainder of the match, it was Griffith’s dreadful error that has now all but surely cost them their chance of a playoff berth at the end of the season.

In a potentially season-defining game, in which you take a 2-0 lead against a QPR side low on confidence and in terrible form, the last thing you expected was for West Brom to roll over and let their opponents back into the game in such circumstances.

In a race where the mistakes and errors desperately need to be cut out, West Brom fall foul to them once again which will have surely enraged Corberan at the end of Monday’s game. Where do they go from here now?

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have sent scouts to track an in-demand defender who’s set to leave as they begin planning for the summer transfer window.
