Don Goodman: West Brom fans ‘celebrating’ latest Carlos Corberan development

Don Goodman is “pretty confident” Carlos Corberan will be unfazed by the recent speculation regarding his West Brom future.

Corberan has been linked with both the Leicester City and Burnley jobs during the summer after guiding Albion to fifth place in the Championship.

However, Leicester instead turned to Steve Cooper, while Burnley announced the appointment of Scott Parker on Saturday (6 July).

The Spaniard now seems certain to be in charge of the Baggies come the start of the campaign, and Goodman expects him to be fully committed.

“I imagine West Brom fans are celebrating given the news of Burnley and Leicester appointing other managers,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“It just means there’s more chance of now keeping one of the division’s best coaches – a win-win for Albion and their fans.

“I’m pretty confident, hearing what I have about Carlos, that once he’s back in his office for pre-season then he will be throwing everything at making West Bromwich Albion the best team they can be going into the new season and repeat their top-six finish.”

Carlos Corberan set to stay at West Brom

Supporters can breathe a huge sigh of relief that, despite the widespread speculation, Burnley and in particular Leicester looked elsewhere.

The Leicester talk would have been of particular concern to Albion fans given the Foxes are a Premier League club.

Quite what Corberan made of all this we don’t yet know, but there has been suggestions his agent may have been putting his name forward for other jobs.

West Brom Shilen Patel and Mark Miles
Shilen Patel must ensure he backs West Brom manager Carlos Corberan

It is no surprise that the 41-year-old is on the radar of top-flight clubs given his work at The Hawthorns – and indeed Huddersfield Town – but he’s the Baggies’ man for now.

Shilen Patel must simply ensure he backs Corberan going forward and there is then no reason why he cannot be a Premier League manager with West Brom.
