Carlos Corberan must hook Karlan Grant v QPR, could be final act as West Brom player
Carlos Corberan must contemplate hooking Karlan Grant at half-time if West Brom are to claim all three points against QPR on Saturday (10 August).
The 26-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan away from The Hawthorns, becoming a popular figure in Wales with Cardiff City, where he notched six goals and two assists in 39 league games.
However, Grant has failed to have the same impact during the Baggies’ opening match of the new Championship season, having been trusted with a spot in the starting XI alongside John Swift, Tom Fellows and Josh Maja.
While Maja was able to cancel out Lucas Andersen’s early opener at Loftus Road, powering home a smart header from a deft Torbjoern Lysaker Heggem cross, Corberan’s men left a lot to be desired.
Heggem looked to be the most dangerous attacking outlet on the left flank, despite Grant occupying the winger position, which should say everything that needs to be said ahead of the second half.
Karlan Grant to be hooked after poor first-half performance in West Brom v QPR
The 26-year-old has been far too careless with the ball during the opening 45 minutes, giving away possession on multiple occasions, being second to the ball, and being careless with his crosses.
Having attempted five crosses to Maja in the middle, 20 per cent have reached his intended target [FotMob], and with Lewis Dobbin and Devante Cole waiting in the wings, his time should be up already.

The winger is expected to be loaned out from The Hawthorns once again, as per Lewis Cox, and despite being named in the starting XI on Saturday, these could be his last actions for the Baggies this season.
If Corberan is to keep his experience on the pitch for the second half, he will need to persuade the Baggies that he has what it takes to remain in the Midlands this summer, but it is not looking likely.
