Josh Maja breaks 111-year record as West Brom win v QPR

Josh Maja broke a 111-year West Brom record with his opening day hat-trick against QPR.

The Baggies star scored three becoming the first player to do so on the first day of the season since Alf Bentley in the 1913-14 season.

This was just the second time the 25-year-old forward has registered a hat-trick in his career, helping Carlos Corberan’s side begin the campaign with a 3-1 win.

Josh Maja shines for West Brom v QPR

The former Sunderland striker has had a tough time of it ever since his move to the Hawthorns due to injury concerns.

Last season, the Nigerian was only able to register 12 Championship appearances, scoring just one goal for the Baggies in that time [FotMob].

Maja has already tripled that tally in just one game of the new season thanks to a hat-trick against QPR at Loftus Road.

The forward scored two headers before grabbing the match ball with an acrobatic effort from close range late on in the clash.

It is clear that Maja wants to be the main number nine under Corberan after Brandon Thomas-Asante made the move to Coventry City.

With performances like he showed on the opening day, there is no doubt that the Spanish manager will have no choice but to start him.

Devante Cole has come in to provide some competition but he now has a tough task on his hands to displace Maja.
