Don Goodman makes new Alex Mowatt claim after announcement today
Don Goodman believes West Brom midfielder Alex Mowatt is currently playing the best football of his career.
Mowatt is in the running for the Championship Player of the Month award for September, as confirmed by Albion’s official website on Thursday (9 October).
While West Brom have gone three games without a win, Mowatt’s form in midfield has played a massive part in the club’s overall impressive start to the campaign.
Speaking to West Brom News, Goodman said: “I said in the summer when he signed a new contract that it was a win-win situation. He had a brilliant partnership with Okay Yokuslu in the middle last season and complemented each other brilliantly.
“The question this season was who was going to come in to partner him and if they could then replicate it. He’s been partnered by Jayson Molumby and Uros Racic at different times, so it doesn’t seem to matter to Mowatt.
“It’s this golden thing that happens when you’re full of confidence – everything goes right for you. He’s got a wand of a left foot and scored some crackers against Portsmouth recently. His all-round game has come on and he’s playing the best football of his life.”
Championship Player of the Month nominees
Mowatt is up against Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan, Blackburn Rovers’ Danny Batth and Norwich City’s Borja Sainz for the award.
Given this award only covers September, when Mowatt really was in peak form, there is every chance he will collect it.
The 29-year-old stayed on at The Hawthorns over the summer and that has proved an inspired piece of business by the club.
With three goals in nine Championship outings this term – just one short of the most he has managed in a single season for Albion – he has taken a massive step up.

The key now is for Mowatt to replicate his form across the remainder of the season and, fingers crossed, take the Baggies back into the big time.
