Carlos Corberan twist at West Brom as Southampton identify another candidate

Carlos Corberan could be set to stay at West Brom as Southampton eye Danny Rohl as a leading candidate for their vacant manager role.

The Baggies boss has been linked with taking over from Russell Martin at St Mary’s after he was sacked on Sunday night (15 December).

The Spaniard has also been linked with the role at Wolves, but a move across the West Midlands feels unlikely, giving way to a potential move to the South Coast.

It now appears that the Saints have picked out their key target, though, which will come as music to the ears of fans at The Hawthorns.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan to stay amid Danny Rohl Southampton links

Albion will be very keen not to lose the 41-year-old mid-season given the impact that he has had since joining in October 2022.

Southampton look as if their attentions have turned away from the Baggies’ head coach as they hold an interest in Rohl.

The Sheffield Wednesday boss is yet to undergo formal negotiations with the Saints but talks have begun between the two clubs, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg [16 December].

The German is under contract with the Owls after a terrific first campaign in charge and was also linked with the Leicester City job before Ruud van Nistelrooy took over – as was Corberan.

Despite never managing higher than the second tier, the ex-Germany international team’s assistant boss is one of the leading candidates at St Mary’s.

This can only be seen as a positive for the Baggies, who look set to keep hold of Corberan regardless of how highly rated he is by multiple Premier League sides.
