Corberan exit confirmed at West Brom as glass of wine detail emerges
Carlos Corberan signed his contract with Valencia “telematically” late on Christmas Eve to confirm his West Brom exit, according to Nacho Sanchis.
The Relevo journalist reported via his personal X account on 24 December that the Spaniard had a glass of wine in his hand as he put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Albion, meanwhile, confirmed the 41-year-old’s departure via their socials later on Tuesday, expressing their gratitude for his two-year tenure.
West Brom new manager hunt underway as Carlos Corberan joins Valencia
It is disappointing to see Corberan leave midway through the season, with the Baggies sitting one place behind play-off spots.
However, the former Leeds assistant cannot be faulted for wanting to return to his homeland, having been born in Valencia.
He also has the opportunity to take charge of a top-tier team for the first time since his short-lived spell at Olympiacos in 2022.
West Brom, meanwhile, have already begun their search for a new manager, with several candidates already mentioned.
Mark Robins has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite [Oddschecker], while Steve Cooper is also under consideration after his sacking at Leicester [DOOD].
Many fans would like to see Graham Potter take the reins at The Hawthorns, but that is a no-go, with his wage demands out of Albion’s reach.
Nevertheless, it appears it will only be a matter of time before the West Midlands outfit announce their replacement for Corberan.
Chris Brunt and Damia Abella will hold the fort for the Championship club in the meantime, according to Andrew Nestor via X on 24 December.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have received an “unexpected Christmas gift”.
