West Brom want talks with agents of Steven Schumacher and Luke Williams

West Brom plan on talking to Steven Schumacher and Swansea City boss Luke Williams as they step up their hunt for a new manager, according to DOOD.

The Albion news outlet posted on X (29 December) to report that the Baggies are keen to speak with both Williams and Schumacher’s agents, in order to gauge their interest in succeeding Carlos Corberan.

Williams’ Swansea side currently sit five points and just two places behind Albion in the Championship table, while Schumacher was sacked by Stoke on 16 September with the Potters sat in 13th at the time.

West Brom casting the net wide to find Carlos Corberan successor

The Baggies are far from the only Championship club on the hunt for a new manager at the moment, with Stoke most recently pulling the trigger by sacking Schumacher’s successor Narcis Pelach on Friday.

Schumacher returning to the Bet365 Stadium is surely off the cards – potentially paving the way for him to be appointed at The Hawthorns – with Millwall having also been in the market for a new manager.

The latter, however, have landed upon former Albion target Alex Neil with an official appointment expected soon [Telegraph, 21 December], raising the pressure on Shilen Patel to find the right candidate to succeed Corberan.

Prying Williams out of Swansea – a club with similar ambitions to the Baggies – will prove more difficult than discussions with Schumacher, but Patel can showcase ambition by actively pursuing the former.

It will be hard for any manager to replicate the immediate impact Corberan made during his first season in charge, but Albion will hope they can come close to that to keep pace in the promotion battle.
