West Brom new manager: Immediate Tony Mowbray update emerges
Tony Mowbray was immediately mentioned as a name to succeed Carlos Corberan at West Brom, Chris Lepkowski says.
The journalist believes a return to The Hawthorns could come too soon for the 61-year-old as he continues his recovery.
Mowbray had to step down as Birmingham City head coach earlier this year because of health issues, after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
The Englishman is on his road to recovery, but speaking on The Liquidator podcast (29 December), Lepkowski said: “Tony Mowbray was immediately mentioned.
“I think it comes a little bit early for Tony. I think he’s on the right road to recovery but I don’t think the job would now be appropriate for him at this moment.”
Tony Mowbray updates at West Brom
The 61-year-old was the Baggies’ head coach between 2006 and 2009, and the fans would certainly welcome his return, but only if right for him.
Over the last few years, the veteran manager has done well, taking Sunderland to the Championship play-offs in the 2022/23 season.
Mowbray’s stint in Birmingham was short-lived, and it would be nice to see him return to the dugout soon after his problems.
Corberan joined Valencia after steering West Brom out of a tumultuous time under Steve Bruce.

The Spaniard took The Albion to the play-off semi-finals in the previous campaign, losing to Southampton.
After a strong start this time around, The Hawthorns faithful were hopeful that the 41-year-old would help them achieve Premier League promotion.
Corberan has left midway, but the next incoming head coach will have a solid base to work on, with the Baggies just two points behind fifth-place Blackburn Rovers.
The Black Country club have made progress in the last few months and must make the right appointment to fulfil the expectations.
In other West Brom news, the ambitions at the West Midlands club have been questioned as a key figure looks to depart.
