Mowbray ‘ready to start next week’ as approaches confirmed amid West Brom talk
Tony Mowbray could be ready to return to management “next week” after enquiries from as many as eight clubs, the former West Brom manager has said.
Speaking to Bernie Slaven on YouTube (13 January), Mowbray said that as he prepares to return to football after a battle with bowel cancer, he’s spoken to several clubs about filling vacancies.
Albion weren’t directly named as one of the clubs to have contacted Mowbray, but with several reports saying they’ve done just that, the 61-year-old could potentially be returning to The Hawthorns dugout.
Mowbray said: “Maybe as many as eight clubs have enquired if I’m fit, I’m ready, can I come back – personnel quite high in some clubs have phoned me and asked would I come to meet them and chat.
“Most of those clubs, I’ve had to say no because I need to get the all-clear again – once I get this all-clear, I’ve already got some irons in the fire.
“If feel as if, through the conversations that I’ve had with executives at maybe five, six, seven clubs in the Championship over the last month or so, that I will get back to work hopefully in the next week or two.
“I would like to be at the top end of the table of course, competing.”
Tony Mowbray could be on cusp of sensational West Brom return
Even after almost a year out of the game battling against a life-threatening disease, Mowbray’s stock has not dropped one bit, as has been made clear by the number of clubs who have reached out to him.
If the Baggies are one of those roughly half-dozen clubs to have initiaited serious discussions with their former manager over a heart-warming return to The Hawthorns, fans will be absolutely delighted.

Twice taking the Albion to Wembley and winning the Championship title back in 2008, many a modern Baggies fan will have grown up on the high-calibre football Mowbray’s side served up in his time there.
Since the start of the current Championship season, 10 clubs have changed head coaches, with Albion the only side who have a vacancy yet to be filled after Carlos Corberan’s departure on Christmas Eve.
Talks with Raphael Wicky breaking down last-minute could prove to be a blessing in disguise, and if Mowbray gets the all-clear, this could signal the green light for a return every Baggies fan would cherish.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have suffered a potentially catastrophic blow with one of their star men picking up an injury.
