West Brom fans need to be extra cautious with shock Josh Maja news that’s emerged out of nowhere
West Brom will need to be patient as Josh Maja continues to fight for a starting spot under Ryan Mason.
While Maja has impressed some at West Brom since coming back from injury, he has struggled for minutes under Mason.
The striker had been absent for the Baggies since January after sustaining a leg injury. Before then, he had been widely regarded as one of Albion’s best players.
However, he has only racked up 28 minutes in all competitions since the beginning of the 2025/26 season. There is no doubt that Maja will be hoping West Brom’s defeat to Derby County will prompt Mason to play him more often as he continues to make a name for himself at The Hawthorns.

West Brom to give Josh Maja new contract
It was suggested that Maja could leave West Brom before the end of his contract, which runs out in the summer of 2026.
- Maja has made 42 appearances netting 13 goals and providing two assists in all competitons
- The striker has missed 50 games since signing for the Baggies in August 2023
However, the centre-forward has continued with the Baggies for his final season. And it now seems that Maja could extend his stay at Albion for the foreseeable future.
As reported by SportsBoom on Tuesday, 16 September, West Brom want to renew Maja’s contract as it runs out at the end of the season.
Southampton have been long-standing admirers of the centre-forward and plan to keep tabs on his form during the season. However, the Baggies’ hierarchy and Mason do not want to lose him for free during the summer.
With Maja fighting to get back to his best, a new deal could end up being best for all involved. And with Mason hoping to earn West Brom Premier League promotion, this could provide a much-needed boost.

West Brom fans must be cautious with potential Josh Maja extension
While Maja’s extension would please many West Brom fans, the recent news should be taken with a pinch of salt.
As of the time of writing, speculation around a potential Maja extension exists, but the news has yet to be confirmed by the club.
The news seems to have come out of nowhere, and it would not be surprising if he leaves at the end of his contract, given his infrequent use by Mason.
