Why West Brom-linked Svante Ingelsson has been left out of Sheffield Wednesday squad vs Swansea
West Brom didn’t address all of their priorities in the winter transfer window.
Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba joined West Brom on loan from Aston Villa, making his return to B71 after coming through the academy.
Hindolo Mustapha arrived on loan from Crystal Palace, while Danny Imray and Max O’Leary were brought in to add some defensive stability to the side.
However, Toby Collyer’s loan spell was cut short, and the Baggies desperately needed to sign another central midfielder.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Svante Ingelsson was linked with West Brom, but the move failed to materialise, and he has now been left out of the squad for his team’s match against Swansea City on Sunday.

Svente Ingelsson left out of Sheffield Wednesday squad due to personal reasons
West Brom were considering spending £500,000 on the Swedish midfielder, but he would have required an expensive contract at The Hawthorns.
The 27-year-old was sought after by Portsmouth and Millwall, although he decided to wait on leaving due to personal reasons.
With his partner set to give birth very soon, Ingelsson felt it was unwise to relocate halfway through the campaign.
| Stat | Ingelsson |
| Appearances | 35 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 5 |
| Chances created | 21 |
| Touches in opposition box | 53 |
Sheffield Wednesday reporter Alex Miller reported that the reason Ingelsson is unavailable is due to personal reasons.
The Owls are rooted at the bottom of the table and relegation looks certain, but they’ll definitely miss his power in midfield.
Ingelsson is incredibly versatile, and his recent absence from the squad is certainly an anomaly, as he has featured in 29 Championship matches this season.
It’s clear that the Baggies are missing an extra midfielder, as seen by their interest in Rangers youngster Bailey Rice, and Eric Ramsay certainly wasn’t helped out by the powers that be in the transfer market.
Svante Ingelsson would have easily replaced Alex Mowatt in the starting lineup
Ingelsson has a lot of traits that make him perfect for the Championship.
He is 189cm tall and would give the Baggies much more athleticism in the centre of the park.
Although Jayson Molumby has had his fair share of critics, Alex Mowatt is becoming a liability for West Brom.
While his quality on the ball is evident, his lack of movement has left him overrun by the opposition at times.
In Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Stoke, fans online were quick to highlight how poor he was off the ball, and there’s no doubt that his performances must improve.
Ingelsson would have solved that problem in a heartbeat, and the Baggies would be smart to go back in for him in the summer.
As for Mowatt, the fans are starting to lose patience, and he hasn’t got long before Ramsay will think about replacing him in the team.
