Josh Maja contract renewal a no-brainer next, but West Brom must avoid relegation
Josh Maja should be the next in line to receive a contract extension at West Bromwich Albion before the end of the season.
Ousmane Diakite’s stay at The Hawthorns has been extended by a further year, with his current deal now expiring in 2027.
The Nigerian striker has been a key player for James Morrison at the Baggies, starting the last two Championship fixtures and scoring against Hull City in the 3-0 victory.
After beating Bristol City, the Albion have a four-point gap with the relegation zone, and avoiding the drop will surely be monumental in convincing players to extend their stay.
Maja can be a game-changer for West Brom and the Black Country outfit should do everything in their power to keep him for the foreseeable future.

West Brom exit could be detrimental for Josh Maja
As much as the Baggies need Maja to stay, the centre-forward arguably won’t find a better place than The Hawthorns for the 2026-27 campaign.
The Nigerian star was impressive last season, scoring 12 goals in 26 league appearances, but fitness issues have hampered him in recent months.

It’s clear that the 27-year-old needs time to return to his best and the Albion is where he’s guaranteed that.
If Maja joins another second division team in the summer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him struggle for game time.
This season, the attacker has scored just two goals in 33 Championship games and the Black Country outfit have shown a lot of patience with him, something others might not do.
Shilen Patel can give Josh Maja added incentive at The Hawthorns
Most players, including Maja, are enjoying working under Morrison, with results on the pitch highlighting the difference.

The former Scotland international has clearly galvanised the squad at West Brom and it would make sense to continue with him next season if he helps them survive the drop.
As things stand, the Baggies are in good stead to avoid relegation, with the games against Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday in the final stretch of the season arguably winnable.
Morrison’s continuity may give the players motivation to stay for his project at The Hawthorns.
