West Bromwich Albion‘s ability to survive in the Championship would see them be in a position to once again push for Minnesota United star Nectar Triantis.

Eric Ramsay was keen on reuniting with the MLS star in the winter window, but Albion now already have their report done on the midfielder.

The former Sunderland star has been a huge success in America, seeing his game transition from centre-back to a commanding leader in the middle of the park.

Shilen Patel and Co. will have plans in place for whichever division the Baggies find themselves in next season, and staying in the Championship would obviously allow them to lure the best stars possible.

West Brom didn’t sign Triantis in the winter, but it’s unlikely that their interest has faded, given that the Greek has continued his form in some style.

West Brom held talks with Triantis in January, but perhaps the poor form of Albion under Ramsay is what drove him away.

However, Championship survival could see Albion have a lift in various departments, and possibly improve the transfer situation, with new technical directors having recently arrived at the club.

Triantis has had experience in Scotland and England with Hibernian and Sunderland, but it’s America where he’s really taken off.

As highlighted by Sofascore in the graphic below, Triantis had a 7.12 average rating in the MLS last season, and already has a score of 6.82 this term.

He boasts clear consistency in the defensive part of his game, with an average of 4.8 duels won per game last season, and 2.6 this campaign.

He averaged 26.9 accurate passes last season and isn’t far off this term with 24.8 per 90. The 22-year-old has a matched 4.2 ball recoveries per game, and is someone who can also take his team up the field and score goals.

Triantis stands at 6,3″ tall and has a unique ability to carry the ball up the pitch. But the fact that he can do both sides of the game is what is special about him.

If the Baggies were to stay up, it would be no surprise to see them go all out for his signature, because it would immediately turn them into Play-off chasers once again.

However, given the success of Jayson Molumby and Ousmane Diakite under James Morrison, a clear casualty looks like Alex Mowatt right now.

The Englishman is on big wages at The Hawthorns, and regardless of whether it is Triantis who signs, any incoming midfielder would surely push the former out the door.
